Sunburnt Toes

Good morning, Readers!

I am using this time wisely. Which is to say, to complain about the weather we are having here in Ottawa. I hate it, so you're going to hear all about it.

First of all, we're getting temperatures hovering around 30°C with humidity levels that haven't yet dropped below 85%. For days on end. This is comparable to the tropics in Australia.

There are a few reasons I left Australia. The heat is a very large part of it.

And this has been the longest sustained heat of this kind in Ottawa that I've ever experienced. It honestly feels like where I grew up during the summer holidays. In fact, it feels so much like it, that I've been suffering with Christmas carols popping unexpectedly into my head during the day.

Because, you know, it's summer in Australia when Christmas rolls around.

I feel vaguely like I should be on holidays and will be going back to school in a couple of months...

Honestly, the sun is terrible right now. I managed to get sunburnt toes waiting for the bus on Saturday, trying to get home after picking up some stuff for my face from a local business. It's my own fault. I remembered to put sunscreen every else except my feet. There is nothing worse than sunburnt toes. They've been radiating heat for two days now, and I'm already too damned hot.

Look, I don't do well in the heat. I'm simply not built for it. My brain gets foggy and short-circuits all the damn time. I can't move without wanting to die, so I tend to spend my time lying on the couch hoping I don't drown in my own sweat. I can't sleep well. My appetite vanishes... like my will to live.

When I say I hate the heat, I hate the heat.

I keep threatening to run away to Ireland, or the most northerly possible island off the coast of Scotland or something. With every passing day of temperatures higher the 26°C and humidity higher than 70%, I become more and more serious about it. Can I afford to? No.

I don't care. I'll smuggle myself in and vanish into the wilds to die of exposure or something. Anything to escape this awful heat.

And my sunburnt toes.

Right. Glad I got that out of my system. That's really all I wanted to say this week.

I am working on my various projects, still. A quick update on them all - I've started the second last painting required for a special thing I'm working on for my subscribers, I have finished my re-read of book three of The Three Worlds War series and now I'm turning to writing the last little bit. I'll be so excited to finish this story. It's been a bit of a slog. Can I blame the heat for that, too? Stuff it, I will. It's the heat's fault.

So that's my everything for this week. I hope wherever you are, you're well and not dying of heat stroke.

Slán go foill!
